(Cnicus benedictus)

  plant that favors cultivation and waste places alike. Physically unprepossing,  blessed thistle earned a reputation during the Middle Ages for treating the Plague. Some modern practitioners, including Paul Beyerl, associate this herb with Male Mysteries and God invocation, however, it is most often used for protection charms and mixtures. Said to ward off all sorts of malevolent magic, bless an individual or endeavor, and counteract the effects of a hex or curse.
