Matthias Fledermus' Corner
Born and raised (mostly) in Colorado Springs, to crafty parents (Mom sews, Dad
woodworks), he was raised learning the value of his own skills. He discovered the S.C.A.
around 1992, and needing & wanting
armor he couldn't afford on a high school kid's budget, he found a good mentor.
He knew that was the better deal:
“Wait... I can pay you for armor and
you'll make it for me, OR, I can NOT pay you, and you'll teach me how to make my
own. I get stuff and skills? Hell yeah!” - "In retrospect, it would have been more
cost effective to just buy $500 worth of armor rather than thousands and
thousands of dollars worth of tools. Oh well. It keeps me out of bell towers
with sniper rifles".
From there, the process of making metal "sit up and
bark" when he told it to, became rather an obsession. While he's worked in
'strange' materials (aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, etc.) plain old steel is
far and away his favorite.
