An Herbalist's Primer:

The method behind the madness. Tools, tips, tricks, medicinal classifications, herbal alchemy, archaic measurements, and definitions for magical herbalists of every level. What works and what doesn't, from someone who has actually done it, and not just read about it in a book!
An ounce of prevention is
worth a pound of cure.
String Juniper Berries onto
a bit of floss (embroidery or dental).
Empower and wrap around
your rear view mirror( so it doesn't dangle or attract attention), or place with
treasured possessions to protect it from theft. This is especially potent
if combined with a blue bead "Evil Eye" charm.
These blue eyes have been in use in the Middle East by caravan traders for centuries to protect their camels and cargo.
An herb of opposites, Lavender is both an aphrodisiac and a soothing agent.
Take one cup of honey and a handful of
lavender flowers. Gently warm these together in a double boiler or bain-marie.
Remove before the honey begins to bubble or
scorch, and strain. This blossom infused treat can be drizzled over pancakes,
desserts, or tea to enhance passion in yourself or your lover.
Banishing: Coconut “Walking” Spell
Buy a coconut, and bore a cork-sized hole in it, to drain
the milk
Collect the dirt from a footprint of your intended target (Left footprint is
preferred)..
Let both the dirt & the coconut dry.
Pour the dirt into the dry, hollow coconut, and stopper the hole with a cork.
With your back to the water, throw the coconut over your shoulder and into the
water,
Boil basil and water; allow it to steep for three days, preferably in full sun and moon light.
On the fourth day, strain out the excess material and sprinkle the liquid over your business's doorstep, behind doors, along windows, and across the cash register. Pay special attention to objects or areas of the store that are vulnerable to shoplifters. For best results, work your way from the outside in, to "draw in" business. This recipe is said to bring in customers and prevent theft.
Add benzoin to your favorite formulas. It is renowned for burning away tough blocks, especially those related to prosperity.
"Charging Objects for Spell Casting",

Here’s How:
The whole reason for charging an object is to add the proper energies to the spell items in advance, so it doesn’t distract from the spell work at the moment of execution. You can do this by first knowing what the actual article is to be used for, seeing the end-result in your mind’s eye, and charging your aura with the associated emotion to be used in the performance of the spell. (I’ll leave it to you what you know to be the best in these situations). Next, invoke the feeling of your arm/hands/body filling with a level of energy akin to sunlight, soaking into your skin, into the very marrow of your bones. Feel it fill you until you can’t contain it any longer, and then pour it out, through the palms of your hands and into the object. Some will say that you should be holding it. Others will insist that a bit of distance between you and the object works like a dielectric, and increases the level of energy through that capacitance (Like the difference between Volts & Amps).
To remove the influence of
negative and controlling people, make a strong infusion of
basil ( about 2 handfuls
to a pint of boiling water). Allow it to cool, strain, and add it to your bath.
This is particularly good
for those who feel drained by being around such
people on a daily basis.
I have found it to be more
energizing than a sea salt bath, but quite relaxing.
Calamus is a controlling herb par excellence. It has no equal in the field of domination and hexing.
When you need to throw a
whammy of a curse, stuff a poppet full of calamus, add a slip of paper onto
which your targets name or picture has been drawn, and sew
the poppet shut, and anoint with
"Command & Compel Oil".
Place a black candle,
dressed with "Command & Compel Oil" onto the poppet and burn, chanting your
desire.
This works best if done over the course of nine nights, closest to the Dark Moon, when a persons psyche is more receptive to psychic suggestion.
A Delphic Pythoness underwent intense training, dietary, and spiritual restrictions before placing the Bay Laurel into their mouths to consult the Oracle.
A simpler form of divination is to cast the dried Bay Laurel into the fire. Focus on your question while holding the bay leaves, and toss them onto lit charcoal or into a fire. If the leaves burn brightly and loudly, the answer is a positive. If the leaves burn sullenly, or refuse to burn without coaxing, or the flame dies out, the signs are negative, or you may want to consider readjusting your plans for a happier outcome. If the flame is bright and high, all signs are in your favor.
Bay Laurel leaves have long been associated with prophesy. For a quick prophetic dream pillow, stuff a few teaspoons of bay leaf into a cloth and tie it shut.
Burn Fumitory to exorcise evil and unwanted spirits, including demons, ghosts, and poltergeists.
Add Fumitory to banishing formulas for an extra kick.
The combined scents of
sandalwood and
benzoin
are said to appease ghosts.
If you have a ghost
that you don't particularly want to evict, burn these two herbs to ensure
harmony between it and other members of the
household.
Calamus powder is a good addition to healing formulas and charm bags. It's slightly spicy, gingery scent has gotten me back on my feet from a cold more than once!
I have used this particular formula with outstanding results.
Blend crushed
Dragon's
Blood, Frankincense, and
Sea Salt to your bath water.
On a practical note; this
will stick to your bathtub. Scraping the resin off the tub is a bit tricky, but
the effort is well worth it if you've been hit with a
doozy of a hex. It has the added benefit of sending the curse back to it's
original source, especially with the addition of the herb rue
(ruta graveolens).
Anoint yourself with "Black Cat Oil" afterwards to break a heavy duty hex and restore your good fortune.

A less sticky, but more time consuming method is to powder Dragon's Blood and add it to a vial of olive oil. Allow this to steep in full sunlight and add it to a sea salt bath. A similar variation of this is recommended by Judika Illes in her seminal work, " The Element Encyclopedia of Spells" as an effective remedy for "clinging curses".

words to your desired goal: (Either them leaving your house or the town).
To thoroughly cleanse and bless an area,
object or person, burn Copal resin on a charcoal block.
It's unique properties not only banish stale,
stagnant energy, but infuse the surrounding area with joyous, harmonious
vibes. I strongly suspect that evil cannot live in the presence of this fair
herb.
Home Purification & Protection:

This is spell more akin to environment programming. The phrase "Setting the mood" takes on whole new connotations. Not only will we be purifying the area, but also setting an underlying ambience to the environment.
Lighting - Candles (4)
Music - Choose something meaningful to the operation, in accord with you desired mood to the room. (I use Celtic Laments).
Incense - House Blessing Incense, or a good Consecration Incense.
Other - Salt 1/2 oz in each corner. Sea Salt is best (One never knows the 'Correspondence' of Iodine additives. ~S~).
Start music to help get into the proper head space, setting volume accordingly, but be sure you can still concentrate at that volume.. Place a candle in each corner. Place the salt in four small dishes, and place a dish in front of each candle, on the side closest to the center of the room or home.
Light Incense.
( If it's a large home, do this with each individual room, in succession. )
Internal Workings: We won't be casting a circle for this operation, as the home/room it's self will constitute the boundaries of 'sacred space', as is the purpose of this spell.
With music playing, and incense burning, begin a chakra charge, opening each chakra in succession. Stand, with feet apart at shoulder width, arms stretched, palms up, eyes forward (north) and spine straight ("Star Pose"). For this, I suggest starting with 'crown', and working your way down. Continue opening each, drawing 'The Divine' down into each chakra. Don't stop at root, but when each chakra is charged, open the bottom of the Root chakra, and send the energy down into the floor, energizing the floor and walls with white light, but delivered with the associated intent it receives after being filtered through you.
Using "The Magical Voice", begin the "triune resonance", of the Thelemic Tradition, in the notes of Throat, then Solar Plexus, and lastly Root chakra. If you aren't familiar with it, then the vowel sound attached to each chakra, in the same notes, will do nicely. (Internal Assertion: C5 - "Communicating/Creating", C3 - "Will", C1 - "into Solid/The World"). This will amplify the desired frequencies of the energy stream.
Where the energy stream strikes the floor, visualize it bubbling and roiling like a waterfall, changing to a bright blue light. Clearly visualize it: from it's eye-searing intensity to the shadows it's casting on the walls. KNOW that it's is there.
Clearly see this bright blue energy flowing out along the floor, crawling up the walls, and meeting in the ceiling. Feel it flowing through every nook & cranny of the walls, into every pore in the foundation, every nail in the walls, every tile in the roof. Be One With The House. When you know it's soaked into ever part of the home, stop, and close the flow from your root chakra.
Witches & Wiccans: Call quarters, starting in the north, (For solid foundation), and walking the circumference of the effected area deosil, attending each watchtower with a request for the specific blessings of those corners. (Earth: Solid foundation & Prosperity, Air: Communication and Understanding in all things, Fire: Warmth and... you understand, I'm sure). Since each witch has their own way of addressing the quarters, your compositions would be better than any I could address to you, here. Call quarters as you would normally, and make these addresses.
Wizards: Create a thought-form, coupled to each of the respective elements, each for their corner, and anchored to each corner. Charge them to their specific duties. Make sure to include a firm imagery to these, and an associated appearance of power (Size, veracity, associated sounds and decibel levels, etc). Make them autonomous, but not independent, as you don't want rogue thought-forms feeding on negativity and running amok in the house you bound them to. Light Candles as you construct each thought-form, charging them with the image of their respective duties & roles, with an assertion of your authority. Coupling these to the elemental principles they represent taps into the collective unconscious associations, asserting their identities as elemental entities, (but of your creation & possession).
Now, as to Incantations...
Incantation:

Now, once again in the middle of the room, open your chakras as wide as possible, but equally. We'll be trying to keep them in balance, to generate "White Light". Equal level is essential. As white light infuses your body, build a charge, like a capacitor. Feel it build and build until it reaches a level you can no longer contain. Revel in the exertion, as emotion charges the aura, and adds veracity to it.
Once you've reached this point, 'detonate' the energy through the room. As it blasts out towards the wall, it forces any lingering negativity into a 'white light' state as well, or forces it to the Quarter Guardians.
(This charge also works well as a form of "Spiritual Radar', useable to echo-sense any entities that may be lingering. Especial useful in exploring haunted Houses, or simply sensing for the departed during a séance.)
This being done, the room is clean. Thank and release the Quarters.
Wizards: As you know, in the process of creating thought-forms, words aren't truly necessary. A simple assertion of WILL over the entities created, with the assigned tasks is sufficient. It's Telepathic, being an extension & manifestation of you. Perform the spell, as above. If you feel moved for an incantation, use the one above, but with a slight modification. In place of beseeching, Demand! Thought-forms lack discipline, and forget easily is they haven't been suitably "Impressed".
Also, don't dismiss the guardians. You want them in place to serve & protect, like elemental security guards.
Now, at the completion of the spell is done, any negativity would be directed to the corners, and that is why we have the salt: Spiritual vacuum-cleaners! The salt having absorbed the negativity must be disposed. Do So. Do so OUTSIDE!

Love Spells #1
Take two Spell Candles and name one as yourself. Charge it with your very best qualities; now is NOT the time to be harping on your faults. Picture yourself as happy and fulfilled.
*Name the other candle as "my love" or whatever seems most appropriate to you.
Charge it with all of the qualities that you most desire in a partner. Dress the candles both with "Love Drawing Oil" and roll them gently in dried and powdered Basil leaf. Set both candles on your altar or table, about six inches from each other.
Light the candles and focus on having this person in your life, right now.
This ritual can be performed over the course of several days, moving the candles closer to each other with each passing day, or in the course of one day; again, drawing the candles closer to one another.

Love Drawing#2
Add a few of the freshly ground Cardamom seeds to an apple pie and feed it to your sweetie to enhance love and warm the heart. If you aren't skilled in the baking department, here's a delicious and equally effective variation: Grind the Cardamom seeds and blend them into the whipped or ice cream topping.
The Cardamom seeds can also be added to hot spiced wine for a similar effect, though the results are a little more akin to lust than love.
Love Drawing#3
To draw love into your life, take one candle,
a new needle, red embroidery floss or thread, and a bowl of similarly sized
pieces of Copal.
Thread your needle, heat it in the flame of
the candle, and slip it through the beads of
Copal.
State your intent or the qualities you desire
in a partner with each bead added to the necklace.
A practical warning: this can be a very
sticky spell!
I have found that oiling the thread (
especially with a drop of "Love Drawing Oil") very slightly before hand helps
tremendously.
In his " Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs" Scott Cunningham mentions that a piece of Copal resin can be used to represent the heart in poppet magic. Though I have never tried this particular tidbit, the association between Copal and love is very strong.
Love Drawing #4
Blend crushed Lavender flower with confectioners sugar and sprinkle a path to your front door. Confectioners sugar is frequently sold as "Love Drawing Powder", however, if you'd like to entice new love but avoid the ants, use lavender on its own.
Wear a piece of the
Calamus root
around your neck to enhance luck.
This is particularly
effective if you carve it into a "lucky" symbol. Frogs, hands, and phallic or
yoni symbols are very popular, due to their associations
with fertility.
Add a few
Cardamom seeds or
whole pods to a bottle of "Bend Over Oil"
to enhance your sexual appeal.
Excellent when "on
the prowl"!
Make a strong infusion of
Fumitory and water. Allow this to cool and add tincture of
benzoin. Use this as a hand wash
before all major financial transactions to increase and protect cash flow.
This can also be sprinkled
over your wallet, change jar, or bank statement.
Some practitioners recommend sprinkling Fumitory into your shoes and around the home to increase prosperity ; this is a bit messier but just as effective.
Dust your money with
powdered
Calamus to ensure it's return.
Particularly good for
loans.
Nervousness Spell: To Make one Nervous & On-Edge
Take a hair of your intended target.
Find a bird’s nest with a young bird (with feathers, not a hatchling).
Pluck a feather from the middle of one wing, put the hair into the feathers of
that wing, and turn it loose.
Combine benzoin and devil's shoestring in a charm bag, and carry it with you when job hunting, especially to interviews.
On a personal note, I tried
this formula when I moved to a new city to attend college, knew no one, and
needed a job fast!
I was gainfully
employed within four days. -Carmin
Make a dream pillow of soft blue cloth and stuff it with a combination of hop flower and Lavender to dispel nightmares, ease sleep, and enhance your dreams. If you are making this for a young child, the addition of chamomile flower is particularly soothing.
To increase your personal and magical power, finely grind Dragon's Blood and add it to a small bottle of olive oil. Allow this to steep in full sunlight for about a week. Dab this richly scented perfume on before ritual, especially those rites under the aegis of Mars (courage, lust, power, protection, and strength), or when you really need a boost of energy.
An excellent dating potion for men.
Hang bits of the root or sachets of powdered Calamus in all corners of your kitchen to ward off poverty and hunger.
Bay Laurel leaves, worn on the body, are said to repel ill-will and malevolent magic. Fill a red charm bag with bay leaf, rue, and salt to ward away attack and negativity.
Protection #2
Juniper (berry or bough) when hung at the door, is said to protect the home from evil influences, both spiritual and human.
Take Three Silver Dimes and saltpeter.
Grate one silver dime into
powder.
Pulverize the saltpeter.
Add to two together in your shoes.
Take the other two dimes, and affix them to a
belt or such, so as to wear one in front & one in back.
Basil truly is a benevolent herb, capable of repelling and removing malevolent influences, as well as repairing auras damaged by repeated attack. I strongly suggest an initial cleansing (smudging or sea-salt bath) beforehand to allow the energy of this herb to work most efficiently.
Make a very strong infusion of basil. Strain, and allow to cool; it will be touching your naked skin, so make sure you can comfortably stick your hand in it. Bring the bowl and a clean white washcloth with you to the empty bathtub.
Standing naked in the tub, dip the cloth into the infusion and wipe, down and out, starting from you head/ face to chest, arms, then hands, etc. Do not rinse. Allow yourself to air dry and reserve the infusion. Repeat the procedure for nine days.
When you have finished, take the leftover infusion (please, please, make sure you have some left, this is important! ) and throw it out your front door forcefully.
Even if you aren't the victim of magical attack, this spell is very effective in helping you to raise and strengthen your personal shields.
Excellent for purifying
space, and clearing out negative energy, especially that of long standing.
Fumigate your home with
benzoin
on a regular basis to keep the energy moving and prevent creative, mental,
and spiritual blocks.
Purify
Burn Frankincense tears to raise the spiritual vibrations, and purify your sacred space.
Frankincense is also said to increase one's spiritual development on their chosen path. Burn during meditation.
To Enhance Psychic Power
Burn Frankincense and Lemongrass when you feel that your psychic "gas tank" is running on empty.
Psychic Power#2
Lemongrass is famed as an aid for psychic and
mental abilities.
Use by itself to enhance your power, as a
dream pillow, or while divining insight.

Spiritual Radar Spell

Components: None (Purely Internal Working)
Start in the middle (-ish) of the space desired to be "Pinged".
Close eyes (It helps, but isn't mandatory, if you're already in touch with temporal lobes)
Begin opening Chakras, starting with crown. You don't need a full kundalini experience, as we're just using it to charge the aura.
Now, in the middle of the room, open your chakras as wide as possible, but equally. We'll be trying to keep them in balance, to generate "White Light". Equal levels is essential. As white light infuses your body, build a charge, like a capacitor. Feel it build and build until it reaches a level you can no longer contain. Revel in the exertion of the experience, as emotion is essential in charging the aura, and adds veracity to it.
Once you've reached this point, 'detonate' the energy through the room.
Any weaker thought-forms will be carried away on the wave of energy. The stronger ones will remain, reflecting the energy you just sent out straight back to you. The beauty of this form is many fold:
Entities (to weak to be seen un-aided) are easily found, even if hiding.
The energy sent out is yours, safe, and untainted (hopefully) by the entity
The energy that returns is on a familiar frequency/level, for easy Perception.
Study
To enhance your studies, before a test,
speech, or other public presentation, Grind
Rosemary leaves and
Lemongrass
together. This can be enhanced with a drop or two of their respective essential
oils.
Add these to a yellow sachet and sniff while
you study or memorize your presentation, and carry it with you to the big event.

Make or buy a small wooden box. Decorate it with magical symbols and consecrate.
Pick three leaves from a live bay laurel tree on the New Moon and place them in the box. As the Moon waxes,
contemplate what you want to manifest in your life during the next month. Write it down on a slip of paper and place it in the box.
On the Full Moon, place the box, and it's contents into a cauldron and burn. Bury the ashes by the light of the Moon.
