- Historic Component
athered by hand, in proper observance & offering, on the Dark of the Moon, at midnight, on the first New-Moon of 2010, from a three-sided crossroad. This is a remarkable series of concordance, as this New-Moon of January, 2010 was the cause of a partial solar eclipse, just hours before. This makes it of particular significance to Hecate, Magical Mother, and Lady of the Dark Night. Use this component for protection, spell disposal, and honoring crossroad deities such as Hecate.

Carmin's Extended Notes Crossroad Dirt

The edge of the veil, a place at which all choices must be made, lest you linger like the shades that watch this place.
A cross road exists in every town, however, in our modern era, it becomes more difficult to find one that isn't paved or populated. Traditionally, a three-sided crossroad is considered feminine (reminiscent of a woman with spread legs) and a four-sided crossroad is masculine (well, ahem, you get the picture). The fertility imagery is part of its reputation as a powerful protector. Just as the Sheila-na-Gig in Ireland, and the mano fica in Italy, anything in or from the cross road is a powerful amulet. Add this to charm bags, use to contact ancestors, appeal to any deity or spirit that claims the crossroad as home. Add to 'Beat Feet' formulas when you really need someone to leave you alone.
