Faith
(Brought To You By,...)
You wouldn't be here if you didn't believe. Maybe, just maybe, you've read through the last seven pages, perhaps even an appendix or two thinking "Let's see how full of $#!+ This is"! I seriously doubt it. No one goes through this much hunt & peck to disprove anything they don't secretly hope is real. Guess what, Hermano: It's real. Every Catholic mass, every Buddhist chant, every voodoo poppet, is all part of a larger world you've never seen before.
How's it work?
Faith.
In anything!
Faith, by it's self, can work wonders. Every religious rite can be seen through as elementary spell work (as in Elementary School, not "Earth, Water, Air, etc..."). Every god worshiped becomes a focus for all people of that faith, like a constantly running web hub (Myspace), with everyone pouring so much attention & inspiration into it (Myspace), so that it becomes an advertising Juggernaut (Myspace). So it is with deity. So it is with faith.
It compounds within the collective unconscious. It get's even worse when compounded with the "Auric Field Theory". It becomes responsible for aspects of manifestation on a mighty & horrific scale (We'll discuss more on this further on).
Right now we need to deal with your own faith issues.
Firstly, it doesn't matter what you have faith in, as long as you have Faith in it. The capitalization was intentional. We're talking "The Big F". There a many who will tell you that faith & knowledge are antithetical, but who 'disbelieves' anything they Know? Knowledge is the Ultimate in Faith. Don't have "faith"; Have Knowledge that what you do is real & works!
Worshipers have it easy. They put themselves in the back-seat, and let someone else do all the work. Who? It doesn't matter. As my first occult teacher would say, "You could have faith in 'The Great God 'Bic Pen', and if you believed strongly enough, 'Bic Pen' would deliver"! Feel free to worship "B.P.", but don't be surprised when he comes calling for his sacrifices of Legal Pads & Carbon Paper! (He can be a vengeful Writing Implement!)
Seriously, though: How do you think Anthropomorphic Personifications get their start?
Back in the 1970s, there was a psychic research center that dealt in séances. The refined a group of nine to twelve people that seemed to have the best results. The got everything you would expect: candle flares, mysterious knocks & taps, objects leaping from shelves, and tables floating. Then, one day, they decided to throw them for a loop. They Made-Up a 'dead-guy' for them to contact. He was a complete confabulation, from birth & life to cause & year of death. They presented his file like all the others, and guess what? They got all the same results!* Either they were accomplished hoaxers, or they actually generated the results, simply by believing! Either in The "Guy" or each other, the results were achieved.
Most "Gods-of..." can be presumed to work the same way: First there wasn't one, then people began believing, and "Presto!", instant Deity!

Consider this to be a "Page One" on the topic. Too Much Too Soon would not really help, here, and strain the mind!
I can't tell you what You believe. You Know better than I. Anything that goes against the grain of your basic precepts would do more damage than good, and close far too many doors, far too soon!

How do you accomplish this? Start with The Easy Stuff! Anything you do that is just-beyond your current level of abilities is out-of-reach, it fails, and there-fore, convinces you of the contrary. Remember when we talked about Willpower? What strengthens the Willpower strengthens the Faith. Once you start getting results, then move on to harder tasks & tests.
Meditation Time, Again!
You need to figure out what you really believe in ! We all have certain basic precepts: That mommy loves me, the sun will rise tomorrow, and that gravity will always be "On". How much we believed these things (and more) formed the basic foundation of what & how strongly we believed everything else. There is so much we take on faith. We couldn't function without a faith in, say, Numbers (or our bank accounts would be a mystery to us), letters (or the very act of reading would strain the mind, let alone spelling!), and every other aspect of science that is dependant upon an arbitrary, self-referencing "Zero-Line" (Fahrenheit & Celsius, for the simplest examples).
We aren't here to tear apart that faith, but just to simply acknowledge it. If you start to invalidate these aspects of your own faith, you'll start having to do everything consciously! "Trust in Self" will be lost, and Willpower along with it! The world will become a very troublesome place! I did this for a while, and found myself over-taxed by the simplest things. We aren't just talking symbols, folks: I tore apart the more complex functions of the brain. One follows the other, once you start down that slippery slope. I suggest you consider, before hand, how far to take this line of self-inquiry. We're only here to observe the Mechanisms of Faith. We aren't out to destroy them.
Another thing: If you wish to continue down the metaphysical path, find those things that re-enforce your belief in the occult (it's not a scary word; It just means "Hidden", if you didn't know). Examine all the articles, ghost-hunter shows, and more you can find...
...but here's the tricky part: I want you to tear them apart! Filter the B.S. from the Real Deal. It means pouring through a lot of crap, but tear them apart like a séance debunker! The more you KNOW what is true, the more you Know what you Believe.
There's a quote I paraphrase from "The Illuminatus Trilogy", by Robert Anton Wilson & Robert Shea: "I have not yet begun the folly of disbelieving my own senses!" (It's an Incredible Book: 785 pages of the Raunchiest Conspiracy novel you'll ever have the mind-torquing, soul-searching joy to read! I STRONGLY suggest it!!)
Suggested Reading: Robert Anton Wilson: "Prometheus Rising" !! An Awe-Inspiring Guide on The Evolutionary Development of The Human Brain, and It's Software! I can't Suggest This Book strongly enough! It includes the research of psychologists both Famous, and Infamous! Look for it from New Falcon Press!! It gives a lot of really good examples on "Subjective Reality" that are important to further study, and need to be addressed to advance.
*- Note: This chronicler is working under the presumption that some science was involved in this experiment, such as "controlled environment", an understanding of stage magicians, ect...
**-"Presto" is a word I only use to express a point! I honestly doubt that any self-respecting witch, wizard, or mage would use the word in any form other than sarcasm!
