Chakras
They are the energy centers of the soul, the specialized vortices at frequencies that merge and blend to create the aura. In our works we'll be taking advantage of these frequencies. The chart above shows not only their relative positions, but also the nada, or "Sub-Chakric Nodes" that we'll be directing energy through.
Kundalini
This is the name given to the energy that flows through them. It's more come to refer to the Full-Throttle, Cascade Opening of Chakras. When all chakras are open, and in tune, a well-spring of energy explodes from the root chakra and produces an experience that cannot be shared, so much as experienced. It always has a profound impact upon the subject. For Good or Bad, it is quite profound.
I do not, and will not teach that here. The effect can be quite traumatic, and psychologically scarring to the student, if done wrong. That being said, I cannot suggest strongly enough that you pursue the effect through more capable channels. The effects that it adds to your spell casting will be of immeasurable value! There are many teachers who specialize in Transcendental Meditation, and have experience in leading one on the path of achieving 'Samadhi'.
There is one drawback: It can be seen as the End Result. It can also be addictive.
"No! You're Wrong! It's a state of bliss that is true enlightenment", I hear people say. WRONG! It's a Drug that many see as the goal, and never realize that the rest of their life is being ignored! They bury themselves in only this one facet, and think the rest of the world as "Base" because we don't share their 'Drug'. The person who has achieved 'Samadhi' claims such wonderful enlightenment, and what do they do with it? The spend even more time sitting in a lotus position and returning to it. They can be likened to the adolescent that has just discovered masturbation!
We live in a physical world, people! If what you've learned has no application in this world, what use is it?
I suggest that you always keep one foot on the ground, or at least touch base with the material world, from time to time. It's the only way to make sure you keep having a real life.
The point to this page is to give simple, SAFE ways to increase Chakric energy levels & reserves, and to demonstrate how Chakras are used to enhance spell casting. There are various techniques for building the overall energy level of the aura, but our focus will be two-fold: Tai Chi & Chakra Meditation.
Tai-Chi:
Most people have a tendency to separate the various practices. I suggest true eclectic blending of them. Where one group specializes, in one attribute, that level of advancement can be harvested, and used to strengthen your own practices. No one says you have to invest in a religion, but simply examine the "Truth" of it, and discard what doesn't fit. Other traditions are like a toolbox: You don't try every tool to tighten a screw, you grab the right implement and leave the rest!
Tai-Chi is one of them.
Sure: It's a great tool for poise, grace, and developing those martial arts skills (all of which are very worthy pursuits), but it's top-notch in the "Accumulation of Chi/Life-force/Manna/Kundalini". Learning to channel energy through the meridians is one of the things that Sending Energy Directly (al la Reiki, Faith-Healing, Charging Objects, etc) is dependent upon.
Now, to give an instructional on Tai-Chi would be redundant, as there are MANY sources available, in written and video formats. Tap into one of those sources, and come back here...

Okay,...
Now, I'm sure you looked at Tai-chi and said "Hey! They only talk about THREE energy centers! Where are the other Four?!?", or something like that. Well, the three Tan-Tien they discussed are (starting from the bottom) the 2nd, 4th and 6th chakras. If you examine the chart at the top-left of this page, you'll notice that and another very significant difference: The Hindu Chart lacks MANY of the meridian lines you'll find in the Chinese art-form. See? Each has it own strengths, through it's own direction of specialization.
Where the Hindu method of energy cultivation focused upon the sources within, tai-chi focus on the movement of that energy, and it's subtler effects through dynamic equilibrium. If you incorporate both, your magic workings will improve dramatically.
The image, top right, is an indicator of cross-cultural expansion in it's own right. That picture is how chakras are perceived in European Magic. You may note how the root chakra is raised to the location of the sacral (2nd), and the sacral is shifted to one side, over a kidney. I find this indicative of the European disdain for even the Idea of sex, and an attempt to avoid the area entirely. Little do they realize, though, that it's the Sacral chakra that invigorates with sexual energy. Only a Patriarchal régime would assume it starts at the testicles! Life starts in the womb. This little variation also tells you who first incorporated the idea of chakras in European Magic. I can't tell you Their name, but I'm sure it started with "Mister".
Now, when you think of chakras, one first asks "So what f-ing good are they?"
Well, as we deal with the occult, we learn that our goals, actions, and methodology can be broken-down into a series of "Types". Either by design, or evolution (spiritual or otherwise), these concepts are emulated or imitated in the chakra meanings, intents, and purposes. You can pick up a book, and learn a great deal about chakras (My favorite is "Wheels of Life"), but we should get specific, to at least give you a starting point.
Lets Look at them, and compare with the picture at the top.

This is a very basic illustration of uses, and the more you study on the topic, you may come to disagree with their uses, but for now this list will suffice.
Now, when you're attempting to manifest something into the world, it helps to key in to the right frequencies. The chakras help us do that. By opening only the chakras associated with the desired end, we can better use the energy that we summon. Remember: Leverage!
That being said, Start by working on opening your crown chakra, as opposed to "Root" I know full well that EVERY source says (speaking in a simpering, pseudo-sensitive voice) "draw energy up from the earth, and share it with the universe". Give me an F-ING BREAK! We're here to Get Shit Done! You don't do that by sharing, blindly, your very soul, and wasting resources!! If the world is so interested in sharing it's energy, TAKE IT!!! The rest of the world will soon learn that it has made a bad mistake in following like lemmings, the eons-old traditions that have gotten nowhere! If 50 million years of evolution have taught us anything, it's that what we have, can, & do makes us a viable life form, and not what we give away.
Let it also be said that if you are a divine being, or part of one in the collective unconscious, it is your divine right to draw from it and make your survival & comfort easier through it. Claim Your Godhood!! (This would be a GREAT Time to mention Karma. Take Karma VERY Seriously!!)
Okay: End of Rant.
Where were we? Oh Yeah,...
This divine source concept can be viewed anyway you choose. As I mentioned above, we can attribute it to Karl Jung's 'collective unconscious', or race-memory side effect. If you're of an eastern bent, you can call it "The Akashic Link". If you sign on with the Quantum Theorists, it's that ground-level static hum of "Individual (Perception x Expectation)/Consensual (Perception x Expectation)= Reality". Take your pick. Come up with your own. The point is, It works. It works for me. It'll work for you.
So, then, what are we working on? Is it Love? Money? Healing? Look at the list and figure out what chakras work with it? The more you study it in depth, the more flexibility you'll find within the associations and, there by, the greater efficacy in your spell work.
Two techniques I enjoy are thus:
First: Contemplate the end result, activate the chakras, in series closest resembling the sentence-structure of your desired end, and then perform either thought-form creation or probability modification works, with these energies. (These will be covered in future installments.)
The Second: Start with the "Triune Resonance" as per Crowley , channeling the energy into your aura, from the crown of your head (Crown Chakra), down through Your Root Chakra then into legs, and beyond. Then, activate the chakras, as in the first case, using the first wave of energy as a carrier for the second.
Variation: Perform the Second series, but place the energy from your aura into a thought-form, before engaging into the second sequence. Apply the energy signatures of this new sequence to the thought-form. Twice the energy, each ordained, to the aspects of the casting.
Was that too advanced? Perhaps.
These words will mean little or nothing to you, if you have not had even a slight history with Tai-Chi or Chakra use. If you're starting from "Go", it might be a good time to get the basic levels of understanding in moving energy. I may write an addendum piece on it later, as inspiration provides, but for now I cannot slow the speed of these posts to suit everyone's level of development. That being said, there are some pretty simple exercises to start with:
Exercise One: How So See Auras (AKA: "The Sight")
You should have been doing this one since page 4! This exercise will have you seeing your own aura, and noticing how certain aspects of Will will cause it to change shape & size as you desire it to. If not, start now. Also trigger emotional states while using The Sight, and you will see how each emotion causes a corresponding shift in each layer of the aura. Play with this! (Yes, "PLAY"! You have multiple layers of "Self", and only one of them is the "Adult" part. You still have an Inner Child, and I suggest you keep it as healthy & happy as the rest of you! I have a Very Healthy "Inner Child": I feed mine chocolate! ~L~)

Exercise Five: "Fill The Room"
This exercise starts you toward gaining control over the area of your Aura. If you've been developing the Sight, you will see how the different layers respond, as pertaining to their elasticity. You will see how the outer layers extend further, but the only one that seems to go "All The Way Out" will be the Third/Outer Layer. The denser layers seem to drop-off, at least in mine. You may be different.
Another thing: The more you do this exercise, the more you will find yourself "Seeing" through your aura. This will be ever so useful in aspects of probability modification, weather control, and more. If you don't, go back to the Synesthesia Exercises. I didn't give them yet? Suggested Reading: Anodea Judith, Ph, D : "Wheels of Life" is an in-depth study of the Chakras, as they are perceived by middle eastern philosophy. It goes into greater detail than any other book I've found, and it would be redundant for me to try to expound on it here. There are places where I digress from her precepts, but they will be pointed out, and more often than not, I agree with her findings.
C. W. Leadbeater: "The Chakras". If you aren't looking to spend too much time on them, This book is only about 132 pages long. It is heavily referenced in the Anodea Judith text above, but less daunting that it's 453 pages. Still, I do push for you to study the phenomenon in any case, as they seems to be the source of all life force energy. (Argument of a "Chicken or Egg" variety still persists, concerning "Aura or Chakra")
I know they're the same from last page, but it bears repeating.
