Mental Health Day!!!

(Brought To You By,...)

This isn't what you expected, I know, but like I said before, it's about you, right?

After engulfing yourself in the Occult for a while, one can start to loose their grip! After Teaching classes on Tuesday Nights, posting here, running the site & additions, writing articles, blogs, and Advice on Occult Forums-dot com, I can be so "In Touch" with Magical Thinking, that the other aspects of my life begin to suffer. That includes relationships, your grasp on reality, even the simple task of doing dishes regularly (I'm speaking from experience, here, folks!).

    Sometimes, you need a Break!

When you realize you're becoming a One-Note-Flute, you have to take a big step back. You're learning ESP: Great! You're Seeing Auras, meditating, and sensing & seeing ghosts: Fabulous!! You can tell what someone had for lunch just by shaking their hand: Remarkable! But look at what's happened around you!

If you've been faithfully following this guide through it's last few weeks, and getting the results at the speed I've been writing them, then that must mean you're pretty well Entrenched. When was the last time you just went out for coffee? When was the last time you just took in a movie? Have you read a book recently that didn't cover some new form of Witchcraft or Shamanism? When was the Last Time you Went Out on a Date?!

You still have to function in This world!

Let's face it: you have to learn how NOT to do magic! Too much "Pushing the Envelope" can cause wind-burn!  We don't want to get burned out! I decided to take this time to remind you to get away from the net, every once in a while, put down your candles, and maybe do some laundry! Wash those socks, people! (Again the voice of experience!) Too much Magic can make you forget what it was like to have a life!

Once upon a Time, I was a Role-Playing Gamer! While feeding my geek, I came across a little snippet of wisdom in White Wolf's "Mage, The Ascension". It had a 'thing' called "Quiet Time". Your reality has shifted so much, and so fast, that you've "Lost Your Center"! You Need Quiet Time. Sanity, people! Not every moment of depression is a sign of a psychic vampire! Not every bump in the night is a ghost! Not every cat that stares at you as you pass is a witch's familiar keeping tabs on your development!  You need to still be able to function in the modern world!

I have some exercises here to help you out! (Don't worry about loosing ground, either! If your temporal lobes are active, they'll still be picking up on subtle perceptions, and rounding-out your New Reality Models, on an unconscious level.)

  • Television!
American Commercial Television is low-brow, easily digestible, predictable, and dramatic! It envelopes you in mundane issues & problems. The Solutions are only 30 to 60 minutes away! The best part is, that when the episode is all over, the whole world is just as it was when the episode began!  It keeps your mind off the astral, away from the specters, and gives you a Feel-Good Break!

  • Deep Social Interaction
When we get too deeply engrossed in a new hobby, skill, or research project, we can forget that we are, indeed, truly social creatures! We get so deeply engrossed in what we're doing that our other needs aren't being met!
Sex. Miss it yet? Get out, get some air, go Clubbing, invite some friends out for drinks (if you haven't already alienated them all with your "psycho witchcraft talk"), and just be "You" for a while. If you don't, it might just get so bad that you'll find yourself a 60 year old man, with greasy hair, living in your mother's basement, re-interpreting Crowley all day long, and playing "Post Critic" on the forums!

  • "Balance your checkbook"
Don't forget to the normal things people do!  Get back to Mundania! It's hard to afford all those great Trinkets & Baubles, Herbs & Components, Books & Bells & Candles if you keep bouncing checks. Job security is hard to maintain if your hygiene suffers. Don't just do them, get engrossed in them! Remember what made them so enjoyable! Don't take your car to a drive-through car wash, but wash it by hand. Remember the simple pleasure of "Doing". Walk your dog, dammit! They miss you!

Your first serious results can captivate & consume you. "The 'Holy Shit!' Factor", I call it!  It's what you say the first time you start getting viable, confirmable results. It can be overwhelming, and start to take over your life. Let's not let that happen.

If you do, They'll cut off your internet service, and then you'll have to read this on the Public Library Computers!

Have A Great Weekend!
See you Monday!

Suggested Reading: Anything OTHER than Occult/Witchcraft/Psychic/New-Age Books! Pick up a Sci-Fi Novel! Grab a copy of some Celebrity Gossip Mag, and see what "Brittany" or Who-ever, is up to? (Is she dead yet, or in rehab, or something?). Stay away (for now) from Vonnegut, Kafka, & Lewis Carol.
