An Astral Bestiary #2


(Brought To You By,...)


    By now, you may have had some success with your first experiments, and have some insight as to where this is going. Those of you with an history of spontaneous projection, may have discovered that this landscape differs from your own personal view. It's not surprising. We translate everything through our own models of the universe, and nowhere is it more visually apparent than during astral projection. What one sees as "Terrain", another sees as "Vibration Rates", and yet another will even see doors, and perceive it as "Climbing/Descending Stairs". We all have different ways. This is mine. One can only teach what they know & do.

    The point of interrupting "Projection Techniques" is to give you an Idea why we're going to stay close to home, at first, while you hone those self-defense skills, and find others that you like & relate-to.

    That being said, let's continue:

    The ghost phenomenon penetrates many layers of metaphysical manifestation. It cuts through into Ground-Zero, but one of the questions puzzling the lot of us is whether consciousness radiates Up to Gamma, or down from it? The answer to this question would decide, once & for all, if The Divine  is The Source, or a side-effect of Consciousness. Does it 'divide' into us, or do we combine to create it? Are we like fingers in a glove, or do we make-up a larger life form, like the countless cells in your own body?

    The debate rages on.

Until then, we'll simply describe the layers that each penetrates.

    Imprints , "Fraught-Forms", and "Vapors" seem to exist only in the Alpha. Their effects can be felt on Ground Zero, but are rarely seen (Aura-Sight, not withstanding).
    Actors are, again, Alpha-based, but impinge into Ground-Zero, because they have a stronger energy level, and bleed through. Like a pea in a drinking straw, they push & distort the boundaries. They have, as well, energy frequencies that they emulate, that enters our standard visual spectrum. (Some say that this is simply an effect upon the brain's vision centers, but photographs say otherwise).
    Haunts are believed to exist on Alpha through Gamma, as they exhibit intelligence, but this may be simply Alpha & Beta, as their motivations still seem limited to their own historic patterns of behavior. NOTE: I knew a man who had a past life memory of being an old man, blind, who spent some time un-aware of his own demise. If his story is true, this would lend credence to the "Alpha through Gamma" perspective.

    Now, let's get to some of the the more destructive & confusing fauna:

    Though-Forms: These are little "man-made" (Sorry, Ladies) astral robots. They are as Vapors, that do the bidding of spell casters. They usually have a goal, and zip along at the behest of their creators. Some have routs. Many a Proactive Defensive spell has taken the form of a watcher eye, that guards a locale, or spies on an adversary or victim. If you aren't the target or an intruder, you usually have little to fear from them. Still, watch your step, and know your Lesser Banishing Ritual (Or other Aggressive Defense Spell). It is still effective when Ghosting, only easier!



     Topa: Though the spelling may change, this Hindu Mysticism Though-Form is autonomous. Through a serious of rituals, a technique is used to create Astral Minions, complete with their own motivations, that act with their caster's stipulations in mind. The problem with these entities is that they tend to keep going even after their masters have passed-on, changed religions, Banished them, or simply forgotten about them. These guys can get vicious, too! They are only created with the initial intent in mind, but are left to develop by their own devices. They lack any serious form of guidance or restraint. Some casters are even proud of how nasty these things can become, or how powerful they can get. Never let their shape fool you. I once knew of a topa shaped like Friar Tuck, but as twisted as any denizen of the worst horror movies! Be on guard. These creatures are centered in Alpha, but leave a heavy footprint in both Beta & Ground-Zero, as well.

    Spells: This is tough to sum-up. Their appearance varies from casting to casting. Their manifestations on each level can vary from impotent wisps, through topa-like juggernauts, to full-blown distortions in the very fabric of reality (when seen from the astral). The odds are that if you experience abnormal effects & manifestations while Ghosting, you're crossing into someone's castings. Tread Lightly, and err on the side of caution. Steer Clear!

    Intelligencia: Here's where it gets trickier still. Intelligencia are multi-form, and completely autonomous! Most of these beings tend to center from Beta, but have effective ability in all realms. They come in many Forms:

        Gods: Years, decades, centuries, and millennia of faith and expectation can create Gods out of thin air. Like thought-forms, they take the shape, attributes, powers, and attitudes of the faithful!  They aren't just limited to one form for each. As sects vary & split, so do their expectations, and this can start the whole process again, into a new entity. These accreted beings are definitely a force to be reckoned with. They believe, as well, as they were created to believe. They "Know" that they are from the divine source (see above), but rarely has this been verified. It's taken on faith. Certain established entities of this type have their sources in other gods (Janus, became Jana, became Dana/Danu, became Diana), and still carry many likenesses at the core. Do some research before dealing with any of these!

        Ancestors: These are as per Gods, but they began as Ghosts, in effect worshipped by their descendants. Heroes of an era gain a mythology, and before you know it, they are counted among the most holy or infernal.

        Infernals: Remember that each level has it's own rules, and not everything comes from us. What is certain is that these are powerful, have their own twisted motivations, are darkly intelligent, and abide by certain rules. Whether we created them, or we found each-other. Countless of their numbers have Summoning, Banishing, and Binding spells attributed to them. They respond to formula, circle rituals, and react negatively to solar invocations & their attributed banishing spell. Just remember: Just because you banish them, it doesn't mean they'll forget you soon, if ever. My suggestion is to NOT get involved with them. They have nothing to offer you that you can't get done yourself, if you apply yourself. There's always a debt, and the bill always out-weighs the return. It's where Bad Economics meets Bad Mojo!

            These aren't just hideous monstrosities & nightmare manifestations. They can be sweet & pretty as Angels or Aimee Brown Fairies. Regardless of the Wrapper, the insides are the same.

I think the best rule of thumb is eloquently prescribed by a piece of poetry my father inscribed in a book he made by hand, as a child:

"If an angel out of heaven,
Offers something Good to Drink,
Thank him for his kind attentions.
Go and Pour it Down The Sink!"
