"The time has come, the walrus said..."
I believe we've taken enough time on the concepts of PK & Telepathy, and now we should hit "Core Spell Workings".
So far we've covered the basic mechanics, tool set by tool set, and the mentality behind each of these. We've covered the internal workings that are the pieces of magical ability.
The only one we've yet to cover is "Probability Modification". This is the core & crust, part & parcel of most people's spell casting. They have no comprehension of the minor attributes & major effects. They simply "Put-It-Out-There", and expect the rest of the Universe to make it manifest. If you've been doing the exercises I've prescribed, and had luck wrapping your mind around the internal mechanics, CONGRATULATIONS! You are now far ahead of those that just specialize in "Correspondence Charts", Moon Phases, and Material Components!
Prob-Mod (For Short), is something we do every moment of every day. It's the every-day preconceptions that assert themselves upon the world that make the map that becomes the territory. From the light, subtle "That-could-never-happen" thoughts, to the deep-seated "I'm not deserving or capable" ingrained scars that keep us from trying at all, we build the universe around us, moment by moment.
It isn't just us, either. If you recall from previous installments, it's a vote. The very nature of our perceivable universe is a mater of "Overall Belief Structures", and how they butt up against those of each other. It's also been my experience (a word that takes on whole new implications, in this venue), that the Loudest Vote Wins. What we need to do here is make sure your vote is the loudest in your environment.
By now, You've been performing the temporal lobe stimulations. The effects of this exercise isn't simply limited to the conscious application of them, but as your use increases, so does their sensitivity. So much so, that these centers of your brain are functioning unconsciously, as well, ever filling & completing your reality model. They are Filling in the Blanks, even while you sleep. Now, as the model increases, so does your understanding of the "Points of Leverage" you can apply to any situation, for the greatest effect.
Since beginning these exercises, have you found that more & more often, you simply KNOW something, regardless of information? Have you discovered that you've started to sense likelihood as opposed to calculate odds? Have you noticed a more artistic flow in your life, where Reason & Logic once dominated? If you haven't, don't despair: You will. This is the temporal lobe reception, comingling with our little "Thinkers & Provers", rounding out a wider world view, where before we were let to gaze out at the world through the Five little peep-holes we call senses, and put the pieces together!
Now, the question comes: "How does one exercise these new pieces of information to greater effectiveness in Spell Casting"?
Remember the five internal mechanisms?
Those Internal Personality Aspects that help define us are the very tools that are applied in Prob-Mod. Of these, Will & Faith, Faith in Yourself, seem the two hardest to develop, and the crux of the issue. Otherwise, it's simply a matter of reading, intuitively, the likelihood of an event occurring, Visualizing that event, and locking-In to the sense of likelihood, and inflating the results, without sabotaging the results by sending out a conflicting emotional drive to the intended target.
It requires a plan. Good Spell Composition is based upon That Plan.

...But what we really need to work with, and it's no mean feat to accomplish, is to develop, strengthen, and crystallize your Faith in yourself, and Your Sense of Will, or Personal Power. It's one of the more attractive aspects of The Craft, and draw so many seeking power over their lives. It was the hardest lesson I had to learn, and I was approaching it from the Scientific Perspective (More like a psychologist than a physicist, mind you). I'd love to be able to give you hard & fast exercises guaranteed to improve these attributes, but the issues you have with them are personal, and need to be approached from within.
All I can give is a few courses for guidance, but without first-hand experience of who you are, I'll have to keep them generalized. I hope you understand: It's a big world, and hard to keep track of absolutely everyone.
Hobbies: You would be surprised at what taking on a hobby, craft or field of study can do for your self image. Take it on yourself just you and a book, with no instructor to judge, grade, or fail under. Start of easy, and build up. I'm not, repeat NOT, suggesting that you take on skydiving, mountain climbing, or any similarly dangerous hobby for this developmental suggestion. I simply feel that if you think you're self esteem could use some bolstering, this would be a good way to improve your sense of "Imagination Made Solid" through your own hands,
Faith in yourself can be a lot like math anxiety: You can never get that "Wrong" back, and make it "Right". The trick is being able to say, "I start Here", and be better for the experience.
Ethical Structure: Too many people see themselves as a failure, as their sense of self esteem is linked to an unrealistic Fantasy Role Model: "Think You're Perfect? Try walking on water!". (Let's just say, the trick is to move your feet, really, really fast!). We are told to compare ourselves to, according to contemporary theory, Seven Different "Messiahs" (The Romans kept very detailed records), performing activities that stretch credibility, and how can you hope to compare with that?!?
Couple that to the European Theological Overthrow of every other pantheon, through the use of the Phalanx Unit Military Maneuver, and now you're forced into an Ideological Undercurrent that wasn't even tested by contact with the Real World. The Dominant Religion was nothing more than a Hood Ornament on a Military Juggernaut! It spread like a Political Virus, and not through direct application. Everyone has since "Jumped off a Cliff", and expect you to fail, compared to a mythical man. You are, instead, expected to be weak, humble, an underachiever, and fail at everything. "This is no World for Remarkable People". That's the battle-cry of the Mundane! "Give me Mediocrity, or give me death"!
No! What you need is a moral structure suited to a real world. A structure that hasn't been tested, and found humanity wanting. A goal to achieve, beyond human ability, is just plain foolish. But a moral structure, that gives a direction for improvement is a Path, not a failed Goal.
Which One?
How should I know?!?
I'll admit to having my own, but you'd never believe me if I told you.
The point of this exercise isn't to be perfect, but to test your Will, and there by strengthen it. It's to have an objective measure by which to compare your worthiness. It's something to strengthen your resolve to be the stronger & more-worthy person, and most of all Know your own worth! Not Guess! Not Suppose! Not even "Muse" bout it. It's about logically looking at the world, and being the person you know you can be within it, to the furtherment of your ideological perspective! It's about leaving the mark you want to leave! It's about being a Remarkable Person! As You perfect your Magic, and you will leave a mark upon this world! You WILL be Remarkable!
When they say this is no age for remarkable people, What it really means is that "The Playing Field has been Cleared!" When You Stand Up, You WILL Stand Out! You will be Loved & Hated, Feared & Reviled, but you will be in the minds & eyes of the public. Are you ready for it?
Affirmation: I suggest a different understanding of 'perfect'. "Who's better at being You than You are"? You're Alive! That's Remarkable in it's own right!
Read "River Out of Eden", for a deeper perspective on how remarkable it is to be alive! You'll feel like a whole new person after the first few chapters! You are the product of Millions of Generations of Successful Life-Forms! All of those people leading up to this culminating moment that is you.
The landscape has changed. The world they were brought up in had Magic crushed, leadership Dictated through the lie of Divine Right, individuality has been socially stigmatized, and humanity wrenched away from the human experience! You can find the hallmarks of Denied Realism present in every excuse they made for their actions, and you can find the flimsy logic they used, to justify both their acquiescence and actions, by thinking back, personally, to every time they answered a question with "Because! Just 'cuze!".
It's time for you to THINK!
It's time for you to Reason-Out, Compare, Judge, Understand, and Decide the Truth of Virtue vs. Excuses. It's up to you to decide, for you, and those that follow in your steps, what is really 'right from wrong'. Only then will you know that you hold the reigns of your life & future. Only then will you be able to justify your actions from a place of Truth, not simply 'rote' or reactionary reflex imprints. Only then will you be a person, a Whole Person, taking responsibility for your actions, and actions based upon Logic, using Reason, not Fear, as your Guide.
Only when you understand that which is right, to & for yourself, will you understand what it means to be in control of your life. Only when you take responsibility for yourself & your actions will you Know your true direction within this world, and be able to clearly take Credit & Blame for the course of your life. Only then will you Know Yourself and Your Will.
