Spellcasting #4
Words in Spellcasting #2

(Brought To You By,...)

Words aren’t the only aspect of vocal communication that impacts. There are certain intrinsic & inherent brain changes that occur in perception of sound waves, in a variety of frequencies. These effects are also triggered by frequency changes, as well as harmonics. When two notes, played one in each ear, with a frequency difference of approximately 30 hertz, the brainwaves imitate the difference, and drop the brain into Theta waves, and knock the listener unconscious. There are numerous musical styles founded in the understanding of how chord changes, beats-per-second, and vocal ranges combine to elicit or produce mood reactions.

Once upon a time, we called it Magic.

Just because Science can explain it, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t still magic.

(Side-Note: That’s a mind-set that needs to be contemplated: Our understanding & impressions of the terms “Magic”, “Science”, & “Technology”. We tend to view the First as separate from the other two, and we tend to perceive the second two as identical. The rising of the sun & the conception of new life can both be explained scientifically. Does it make them less magical? We know how the brain works, but can we build a mind yet? Our own minds need to rectify the differences as 'non-existent'. We need to simply remember that Magic is the science of the mind, body, and Soul (Whatever you define that to be), most of which hasn't been studied seriously, yet. “All things are explainable, to a questioning mind”! ~End of Side-Note)

The effects of sound upon not only the mind, but upon the body, are just beginning to be explored. Not all is as beatific as promised, though, in the sound healing circuit. I’ve worked as support crew, in that environment, for a number of years, now, and the miracle tales & testimonials, are getting less credible and more flagrant with each year. Be-Ware! The likelihood of the impact of sound upon the body being anything else than damaging is so very slim as to warrant fraud charges in most cases. The effects upon the mind, though, are easily measurable, and the tissues required to perceive sounds are minuscule, and need nowhere near the decibel level or duration (for resonance) mandatory to impact the cancerous or diseased systems. Physical therapy aside, by affecting the mind, physical systems can be shut down, boosted, bolstered, or modified. My entreating or invading the mind, it can be influenced to experience any number of illusory impressions, which it then reinforces upon reality, through subjective certainty.

Words make this easier.

Minds connect, in verbal communication. That connection can be sensed, by an apt psychic, as the speaking & hearing lay out a common ground, a baseline for the psychic to perceive within the mind of the target, and ascertain a clearer model of the terrain of the targets mind. The very act of processing sounds opens the pathways that relate to those mental models, and that series of cause & effect reactions can be compared to the spell-caster’s mental landscape. The words function like a kind of sonic domino, starting a very clear chain reaction along the logic paths through the listener’s mind, if the ‘reader’ is a talented enough receiver.

Throughout the pages, from start to now, let’s go over them in short form:

  • Chakras have certain sounds & notes that they respond to.

  • The brain entrains to certain notes, opening pathways & attuning brainwaves.

  • Words are received by the brain, and trigger conscious associations.

  • The physical brain is programmed, as a state of “Nature”-over-“Nurture”, to respond to certain sound phenomenon.

  • This response is in-effect, in both caster & target.

  • Ancient magical languages follow the same paths as race memory, and one reinforces the other.

  • “Words of Power” that capture the imagination add emotional effervescence to a spell.

How do we combine these?

What one must learn to do is to combine the effects of both words & sound. Three paths that I like to take are inspired by Crowley, Herbert,  & Ravenwolf. Crowley asserted the Triune Resonance in his Invocations. The “IAO” that is legendary is in direct association to the Hindu Chakric Model: Seven Chakras, each with a different seed-sound, and note. I-A-O are the three seed-sounds that equate to the "Throat"-"Plexus"-"Root" charkas (See Chart). As a language of association & symbolism, it says, “Communicate” “Will” into “The Physical World”. You should gauge the results for yourself, also incorporating the corresponding Notes of the Chakras along with the seed sounds.

Crowley's  example (though veiled) was inspirational to me in combining The Ancient Magical Language of Choice with Chakric Notes, corresponding to the intent of the working, while casting your spells. By combining the magical language you choose, while triggering the Chakras with their associated notes, it brings a new layer of energy into your workings. One note per word/phrase association, it lends a kind of operatic sing-song to your castings. If you choose to draw from a single energy center, or perhaps the associated chakra-per-stanza, the incantation takes on a meter similar to a Gregorian Chant. That’s how they sound with mine, anyways. Find out what yours sound like. Find your own Voice, with Magic Words!

Frank Herbert’s “Dune” series suggested a vocal technique. It’s simply, “The Voice”. I took this idea and ran with it, after I found that Sound waves can impinge directly & proportionately upon brain waves. You will find that the human voice has the ability to issue forth, simultaneously, a wide range of concordant notes. The effect is a warm, soothing, attention-getting croon. Done right, it feels like a softening of the Mind & Will. It’s a useful tool, with almost instantaneous Hypnotic qualities. Practice it, and try it out on your next date. When I use it, it has a bit of a droning sound, but it requires a fair amount of control to do right. The hard part is that this Voice has the same effect upon the User as the Target. You can tell when it's working, as your mind starts to feel like mush accompanied by a slight, alcoholic buzz, simply from way it resonates in your own skull. With practice, you can learn to resist the effect, by letting it pass through/over you.

The Ravenwolf Technique is a bit vague, and reads like it's about finding a "Cool Voice". That has value, in the same way as the "Charm-o'-Making" did, in the last page: "Cool" gives an emotional charge, and an expectation of Great Results. It can help.

What's "The Ancient Magical Language of Choice"?
            Exactly That: A Choice!

I like the Norse Runes: They're established within the community & the Akasha. They have Spoken-Name Value, as well as Engraved-Sigil Value. Several books are written on the topic. Though the repute of certain authorities is in question, even the erroneous translations are so well-rooted in today's' metaphysical awareness as to lend veracity to any & all. Choose the translation that resonates with you.

Perhaps you'd rather get a deeper Mystical Edge, and try a tongue that will impress the olde-timers like me, and blow-away the newbies, as well? Assyrian, perhaps! Maybe even Gaelic (The Romans & Greeks thought the Druids were greater than the Magi of Persia!)? You can even find lexicons from the Lakota! If you've been finding your own path, as I suggested (strongly), you'll find the tongue that Speaks Magic to Your Soul!

The First Technique (Crowley/Hindu + Azzerac) is great for Ritual, because the effect it has on increasing energy focus. Having control of the environment & setting, it makes the perfect time & place to test the effects. Keep notes! (Always! Lots-And-Lots! Proof & a Paper-Trail really help one's Faith!)

The "Herbert/Azzerac Voice" is really only useful face-to-face with your target, and ONLY in a language that you both speak (or the race-memory tongue of your target). Though it can be useful in the same way as self-hypnosis is upon developing, or triggering, an Alpha-State, it's not to be used as a "Meat & Potatoes" vocal style for casting. It can be distracting, and far too soothing to allow you to maintain the emotional charge required for effective spell casting.

The Ravenwolf Voice is pretty much Simple Theatrics, involved only to bolster ones self-esteem & emotional charge.

A final word on "Magical Language": You need to make a point NOT to speak it, save for Spellcasting!!! Too much use, and the effect you chose it for dwindles. Speak it freely at odd times, and the Magical Association may trigger unwanted effects: "Loose Lips", as they say. Keep it to yourself, for the more that hear you speak it, the more likely someone else will respond in it. This has a tendency to discharge the Mysticism you've attached to it. It can really take the wind out of your sails!

For Runic, I suggest "Ditch Blum". I Trust Tyson, and his text, "Rune Magic" really captures my imagination. If you know of any good texts on the topic, drop me a line, through Email.

Suggested Reading: "The Poetic Eddas"! The original translations of the Inscribed Norse Myths. They can lend great insight into one of the Quintessential Magical Languages!
